RSL Sub Branch
RSL Sub Branch
Woolgoolga Sub Branch of the Returned and Services League of Australia has a total membership of 185 and our associated Women’s Auxiliary’s membership stands at 30.
The Sub Branch and Women’s Auxiliary hold their monthly meetings on the second Saturday of every month, except January every year, at 10.30am, at the Woolgoolga Returned Services Club. The AGM for both organisations is held on the second Saturday of February every year.
Our Sub Branch office is located in Woolgoolga Returned Services Club, and through the excellent co-operation with the club, it is provided rent free. The office is open every Tuesday from 9am to 2pm for general administration and every Wednesday from 10am to 3pm for Pensions interviews and administration.
We have members who have served in every war and peace-keeping operation since the beginning of World War 2, and many who served our nation at home in times of peace.
The RSL at Sub Branch level provides Welfare and Pension advice to all of our members plus those ex-service and service people who do not wish to join our organisation. As well as these benefits we provide camaraderie and fellowship to our members and those ladies of our auxiliary.
Woolgoolga Sub Branch and our Women’s Auxiliary celebrated our 75th Anniversary in 2010, to commemorate both organisations being chartered to operate in February 1935. This is quite an achievement for our small district that we have successfully operated for such a long period.
Each year the Sub Branch with the assistance of the Auxiliary commemorate ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day at the War Memorial outside Woolgoolga Returned Services Club, and every third year, in rotation with Coffs Harbour and Sawtell Sub Branches, we commemorate Vietnam Veteran’s Day.
In Woolgoolga Returned Services Club’s Memorial Lounge our Sub Branch Museum Committee have established a Australian Defence Force Museum that is the envy of many other similar establishments, and through their hard work our displays are changed regularly, to coincide with important dates in our wartime history.
To become a member of the RSL one must be a serving member of the ADF or have served in the ADF for a period of not less than six months. Special conditions apply to those who served for a period less than six months and were discharged through no fault of theirs.
The Women’s Auxiliary welcomes any lady into their organisation who wants to assist the RSL membership.
Both the RSL Sub Branch and the Women’s Auxiliary welcome and offer our services to anyone who is eligible to join and enjoys good fellowship.
